Delegations of top representatives and ministers from 53 member states
of the World Health Organization are discussing ongoing global health issues at
the high-level forum.
Amiran Gamkrelidze, General Director of the National Centre for Disease
Control, stated that “participation of the President of Georgia in the session
has a profound importance as it is an unprecedented occasion.”
During the meeting, President Salome Zourabichvili emphasized the
issue of Georgia’s co-facilitation in the worldwide health global process.
Elections for the position of the WHO Regional Director for Europe was also
discussed at the meeting. Georgian candidate Nata Menabde, Executive Director
of the WHO Office in New York, is among the candidates.
“Georgia has a strong candidacy as Nata Menabde. We are very proud that
Georgia is considered as a leader in many aspects,” stated Mr. Gamkrelidze.
Also in attendance were Director General of the World Health
Organization Tedros Adhanom, Regional Director of the Organization, and Mary,
Crown Princess of Denmark.
