The official opening ceremony of the small family-type house was attended by Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, the Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze, the US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan, the head of Agency of State Care and assistance for the (Statutory) Victims of Human Trafficking Meri Maglaperidze.
Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze thanked the United States Ambassador for rendered support and assistance.
“I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to the Ministry of Health, the US Embassy and the US Government, and especially the Ambassador for their support and assistance. A very good and kind deed was done. There are two more types of family houses for the children with special care needs. We, the Tbilisi City Hall also have a lot of interesting programs to render aid. Funding for these programs is growing every year, and the care being provided in support of these special programs is welcome indeed. Of course, we, the capital's municipality, express all our support and assistance to ensure the implementation of such interesting and important programs in the future as well”, - said Kakha Kaladze.
Some of the beneficiaries of the Tbilisi Orphanage will move to this house. The aim of the program is to raise children in a family-friendly environment and improve the quality of care for them.
The construction of the family-type house was carried out within the framework of the Humanitarian Aid Program of the US Embassy, Defense Cooperation Service. The program costs about $ 1,200,000 GEL ($ 425,000) and was implemented by the USACE Corps of Engineers.
Within the framework of the program, it is planned to build two additional similar buildings in the same area, as a result of which the process of deinstitutionalization of the Tbilisi Orphanage will be finally completed.
